    The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Louise Arbour of Canada, has called for an impartial investigation.

    "The killings have to be investigated expeditiously and impartially, and anyone found responsible for human rights abuses must be brought to justice," Arbour said in a statement.

    The fighting has pitted protesters against police, but there also have been clashes between members of Kibaki's Kikuyu ethnic group and other tribes.

    More than 6,000 packed the downtown core to celebrate Brampton Day Saturday."The turnout was amazing," said Larry Zacher, executive director of Brampton Safe City Association. "There were so many activities and there was a lineup for breakfast that went right around city hall and almost to Main Street."One of the highlights for the Safe City Association was the 11 a.m. official signing of the World Health Organization's (WHO) declaration that Brampton is an International Safe Community.The 3,000 free T-shirts given away during the event went fast, according to city officials, as did the 5,000 free breakfasts.Brampton Day is an annual event showcasing the services the City of Brampton offers residents. This year, the theme revolved around safety in honour of the WHO's designation.Brampton's programs, volunteers and community groups working to reduce injuries to children, seniors and in the workplace were among the factors looked at by the WHO in determining that Brampton met six stringent criteria for the designation.
