The demand for fancy crackers that leave patterns in the sky is the highest,� says Ram Kumar, whose three generations have been in the business. Sellers say the demand for high-vacuum bombs is plummeting. �People like beauty, not noise. That�s why we have cut out demand orders for high-vacuum bombs by one-third over two years. Fancy crackers are being preferred despite their cost. One such pack costs Rs 200 to 1,500,� says Ramesh Sharma, a seller in Mani Majra.
In Chandigarh, 560 licences for cracker sale have been granted this year. The quantum of crackers (in tonnes) for which the licences have been granted has, however, increased significantly. More>>
